Flawless 10
Our highest distinction.
When a card receives all Gem Mint 10 subgrades, the card upgrades to the Flawless 10 distinction.
Flawless graded cards are encapsulated with a flawless black label, and are given the highest grade possible a card can be given.
Gem Mint 10
Centering: 55/45 on the front and 75/25 or better on the back.
Corners: Flawless to the naked eye and flawless under magnification.
Edges: Flawless to the naked eye and flawless when examined under magnification.
Surface: Free of print spots, with vibrant color and perfect registration. No focus issues, scratches, metallic print lines, or imperfections in the gloss.
Near Gem Mint 9.5
Centering: 60/40 in one direction and 55/45 in the other on the front, with at least 90/10 on the back.
Corners: Appear Mint to the naked eye, though minor flaws are acceptable under magnification.
Edges: Nearly Flawless to the naked eye, with slight wear permissible under close inspection.
Surface: Minimal, nearly invisible print spots detectable only under close examination. Rich color with no registration or focus issues. Flawless gloss, free from scratches.
Mint 9
Centering: 60/40 or better in both directions on the front and at least 90/10 on the back.
Corners: Appear Mint under close examination, with a tiny amount of wear permissible under intense scrutiny.
Edges: Nearly mint to the naked eye, with minor, inconspicuous border chipping allowed.
Surface: A few light printing specks or a small, single blemish. Slight focus or color inconsistencies are acceptable. Gloss remains clean, with up to two faint, barely visible scratches.
Near Mint/Mint 8
Centering: 65/35 in both directions on the front, and at least 90/10 on the back.
Corners: Crisp to the naked eye, with small flaws acceptable upon closer inspection.
Edges: Generally smooth, though small chips visible to the naked eye are permitted.
Surface: Minor print spots and slight color or focus inconsistencies are allowed. Gloss remains strong, with only faint scratches noticeable under close examination or a discreet metallic print line.
Near Mint 7
Centering: 70/30 or better in both directions on the front and at least 90/10 on the back. Slight diamond cuts are acceptable.
Corners: Light wear on two or three corners is permissible.
Edges: Some minor roughness, small chips, or slight notches are allowed.
Surface: A few visible print spots or slight speckling are acceptable, along with minor color or focus inconsistencies. Subtle border discoloration and a faint wax stain on the back are allowed. Gloss remains intact, with a few light scratches visible under close inspection and some metallic print lines.
Excellent Mint 6
Centering: 80/20 or better in both directions on the front, and at least 90/10 on the back. Minor diamond cutting is permitted.
Corners: Slight fuzziness, but no dings or fraying.
Edges: Moderate roughness, some chipping, or small notches are acceptable.
Surface: Visible print spots, along with minor color or focus issues. There may be slight border discoloration and small imperfections in color or focus. Minor wax stains or very subtle ink marks can be present. Gloss is generally intact with light scratches, but no scuffing. Noticeable metallic print lines may also be present.
Excellent 5
Centering: 85/15 or better in both directions on the front, and at least 90/10 on the back. Minor diamond cutting is permitted.
Corners: All four corners may show slight fuzziness, minor notching, or small dings.
Edges: Noticeable roughness, though no layering. Very light notching or visible chipping is allowed.
Surface: Noticeable print spots, along with minor color or focus issues. Slight border discoloration may be present. Minor wax stains or faint ink marks are allowed. Some loss of gloss with light scratches, but no scuffing.
Very Good/Excellent 4
Centering: 85/15 or better in both directions on the front, and 90/10 or better on the back. Moderate diamond cutting is acceptable.
Corners: Minor notching, layering, or moderate dings are allowed.
Edges: Visible chipping, notching, or slight layering is permissible.
Surface: Prominent print spots, small hairline creases, and moderate color or focus issues are acceptable. There may be noticeable border discoloration and wax stains. A faint ink mark or tape stain can be present. Significant gloss loss with minor scuffing or a subtle tear where the surface paper is slightly damaged.
Very Good 3
Centering: 90/10 or better in both directions on the front, and 90/10 or better on the back. Moderate diamond cutting is permissible.
Corners: Slight rounding, noticeable notching, or minor layering are allowed.
Edges: Significant notching, moderate layering, or heavy chipping is acceptable.
Surface: Prominent print spots, very light creases, and noticeable color or focus imperfections are permitted. Visible border discoloration and wax stains may be present. Light ink or tape stains can also appear. Gloss is minimal, with minor scuffing or a very slight tear.
Good 2
Centering: 90/10 or better in both directions on the front, and 90/10 on the back. Noticeable diamond cutting is acceptable.
Corners: Heavily rounded or deeply notched corners with moderate layering.
Edges: Significantly chipped, notched, or layered edges.
Surface: Prominent print spots, visible creases, and noticeable color or focus issues are allowed. Clear border discoloration and heavy wax stains may be present. Moderate ink or tape marks are permissible. The surface may have little to no gloss, with noticeable scuffing or a visible tear.
Poor 1
Centering: 100/0 or off-center on either the front or back. Significant diamond cutting is permitted.
Corners: Extremely rounded or deeply notched, with noticeable layering.
Edges: Significant chipping, notching, or layering, resulting in visible damage.
Surface: Prominent print spots, deep creases, and severe color or focus issues. Heavy border discoloration and stains. The surface has no original gloss, with substantial scuffing or a large tear.
Authentic
This grade is reserved for 1) cards that have a considerable amount of paper loss, staining, creasing, etc but have not been manually altered and do not reach a 1 grade or 2) The customer has requested for this designation instead of a number grade. Card will be encapsulated as authentic.
Half-Point Grades
TGA assigns final grades in half-point increments (e.g., 10, 9.5, 9, 8.5, etc.). Cards graded with a half-point increment typically exhibit traits from both the grade above and the grade below the assigned rating.
